This building is located about 3.5km (2.2mi) from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. When the tsunami hit, it washed away the first and second floor of the house at 15:35, March 11th 2011. Miraculously, one man survived on the third floor of this beach house. The clock on the facade still shows the time the tsunami hit the building.

The manager of the beach house was outside of the building when the tsunami hit. He was washed away but caught by the trees behind the building and saved.
